SER Central States invites anyone who receives SNAP or TANF to their Job Placement & Training Orientation that occurs every Monday (except State Holidays) between 10:00am-2:00pm! During the orientation, you will learn about services provided including:

  • Assistance in finding a job
  • Getting the help you deserve:

    • Job Placement Assistance
    • Financial Assistance
    • Access to the Latest Technology
  • Job Readiness


SER Central States office is under contract with DHS to assist anyone who receives SNAP or TANF in finding employment, work experience, or training opportunities. The program provides numerous support services to assist in finding employment including transportation costs, interview clothing, work clothing required by an employer, resume assistance, and job leads. There are several computer labs where that teach workforce development, job readiness, and computer skills needed to get employment. Gift cards are provided when you find employment and work steadily 30 hours per week for at least 90 days, in addition to transportation assistance for the same 90 days after you find employment!

The Illinois Youth Investment Program (IYIP) formerly called CYEP is a multi-faceted approach to youth employment that invests in the future of Illinois’ at-risk transition-age youth (16-24). 


The African American Christian Foundation is currently accepting applications for this program to service youth through paid internships, or On the Job training opportunities, for 13 weeks. Youth will work 20 to 40 hours a week at $15.00 an hour with one of our employer partner locations.


Orientations are held every Tuesday at 10:00 am through Zoom.

Must be a youth between the ages of 18-24 and below income (automatic qualifier if SNAP or TANF).


You'll learn:

  • Positive life skills
  • Leadership development
  • Customer Service/Computer skills
  • Financial Management
  • Career preparation
  • Job skills enhancement
  • Intro to Entrepreneurship

The Apprenticeship program allows students to graduate with no debt and a high-skill job by combining job-related credit courses with structured, paid, on-the-job training. At the open house, students will have the chance to learn more about the degrees and certificates in the program, meet sponsoring employers, and ask questions.

The June 28 session will be held in Room A211 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. The July 20 session will be held in Room A215, also from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
