Disability Employment Month Awareness Ideas
October is traditionally celebrated as National Disability
Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). This year COVID-19 presented challenges to
many of the live celebrations that typically take place. Please join Stephanie
Lipe and Sherry Sparks, members of the Workforce Development Unit, DHS-Division
of Rehabilitation Services, and Kathy West-Evans, Director of Business
Relations for the Council of State Administrators of Vocational Rehabilitation,
for both a state and national perspective of activities that could be planned.
Kathy works with many national companies that conduct business in multiple
states as one of her many job duties.
The Workforce Development Unit sponsored their first
employer recognition awards and will share how they conducted the awards from
start to finish. They will also share some of the companies being recognized
for their achievements in working with persons with disabilities. Kathy will
share some vocational rehabilitation recognition ideas from other states along
with information about the National Employment Team and how these efforts build
visibility with business. Windmills Disability Awareness Training and similar
opportunities will also be discussed.
