SiTUATE is holding an Occupational Standards, Apprenticeships, and Training webinar to clarify the relationships among occupational standards, apprenticeship programs, and the employer-based training to support the programs. The issue is that occupational standards are derived from an occupational analysis, which focuses on a broad job title, using numerous sources of information. As a result, employers involved in apprenticeship programs seldom find much relevance from an occupational standard, hindering the effectiveness of the apprenticeship training experience. The webinar will show how to connect an occupational standard with the tasks that are done in an employer’s setting through job analysis and a cross walk tool. This approach validates what tasks apprentices should learn in the employer setting and makes it easier to use work-based learning techniques such as structured on-the-job training (S-OJT). The webinar is based on over 30 years of research and informed practice with global organizations and national workforce development agencies and ministries.
