State Leadership & Skills Conference View

Add to Calendar 6:00 PM 4/24/20267:00 PM America/Chicago State Leadership & Skills Conference

State Leadership & Skills Conferences are the pinnacle events SkillsUSA student members. Each year Illinois' best career and technical education students' heads to Peoria, IL to showcase their ability to enter the workforce. More than 5,000 individuals — including students, teachers, and business partners — are expected to participate in the multi-day event.

The high-energy festivities kick off on Thursday evening. Speakers deliver powerfully memorable inspiration for students to acknowledge the strength and possibility of their skills, embrace competition, and develop a deep sense of pride in their work.

The State Leadership & Skills Conference begins on Friday with students competing across 100+ career competitions designed to test their skills. Each competition is designed and run by representatives of respective industries, allowing students to gain a high degree of experience and insight. Afterwards, students are treated to a special social event for their hard work.

The involvement of industry in the SkillsUSA Illinois State Leadership & Skills Conference program is essential. Leadership, health, trade, industrial and technical experts donate their time to serve as contest judges and as technical committee members. They assume responsibility for selecting the skills to be judged, determining the format of the contests and establishing the standards by which the contestants will be judged.

The red jackets come out on Saturday as the conference ends with an “Olympic Style” Champions Ceremony. It is truly a sight to behold as students stand tall and proud of their accomplishment, connect with their future, and prepare to represent Illinois on the national stage.

As manufacturers continue to face workforce challenges, apprenticeship programs offer a proven way to build talent, strengthen retention, and develop critical skills from within. But many organizations are unsure where to start or how to design a program that delivers real business value.

This webinar will provide an overview of apprenticeship programs, including the registered apprenticeship model and the return on investment they can generate for manufacturers. You’ll gain insight into the essential components of a successful program and learn how to align apprenticeships with your workforce and business goals.

We will also highlight IMEC apprenticeship offerings and the range of occupations that can be supported, helping you understand how to get started and scale your efforts.

In this session, participants will learn how to:

-Understand the structure and benefits of registered apprenticeship programs

-Evaluate the return on investment of apprenticeships for their organization

-Identify the key components required to build and sustain a successful program

-Determine which roles and occupations are best suited for apprenticeship pathways

-Align apprenticeship programs with workforce development and business objectives

-Leverage IMEC resources and support to design and implement a program

Whether you are exploring apprenticeships for the first time or looking to expand an existing program, this session will provide practical guidance to help you build a stronger, more sustainable workforce.

Join Apprenticeship Illinois during National Apprenticeship Week for a panel discussion with this year's cohort of Apprentice Ambassadors and their employer sponsors. The Apprentice Ambassador program is an annual cohort housed under the Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship (WBLA) Committee of the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board (IWIB).

Each year, apprentices from across the state, representing a wide array of industries, are selected to give voice to the apprentice perspective and advocate the win-win model to businesses and other organizations. Each ambassador is sponsored by their employer and mentored by a member of the WBLA Committee. As part of this cohort, ambassadors have the opportunity to engage in professional development, networking, and public speaking. The program, in turn, provides them with professional development to equip them with the tools necessary to tell their story with a business engagement angle.

Hear a few representatives from this year's cohort of ambassadors speak about their paths to apprenticeship and how it has improved their lives. Hear a few representatives of their employer sponsors speak to the return on investment that apprenticeships have generated for their enterprise.

To hear more of this year’s Apprentice Ambassador’s conversations with leaders in workforce development, business, and education, stream The Apprentice Perspective podcast on all streaming services.

Add to Calendar 1:00 PM 4/28/20262:00 PM America/Chicago The Voice of the Apprentice: A Panel on Illinois' Apprentice Ambassadors and Their Employers

Human resources professionals are on the front lines of the workforce challenge — and more HR leaders are turning to registered apprenticeship as a structured, high-ROI talent development tool.

Today on the Apprenti Answers Podcast Special, we're joined by the SHRM Foundation for a live conversation designed specifically for HR and workforce development professionals. We'll cover how to build the internal business case for apprenticeship, what program sponsorship means for HR teams, and how Apprenti serves as a hands-on partner — not just an intermediary — throughout the process.
