Communication, Critical Thinking, Teamwork and Creativity are important skills in almost every job. But what is the secret sauce to success?

In this workshop you’ll learn how to implement this powerful formula for identifying your super powers (meaning transferable skills). Everyone is good at something – it is just a matter of asking the right questions, and figuring out your own answers. And then being able to communicate your skills to future employers. We will teach you how to unlock your potential and “sell” yourself with confidence and pride—knowing that you can deliver what you promise – whether on your resume or during an interview.

We will show you how to identify your transferable skills, incorporate them into your resumes and cover letters and craft answers to potential interview questions.

NCCoE Learning Series Fireside Chat: Rethinking Pathways into Cybersecurity and Privacy Careers

You don’t need a “traditional” background in technology to have a career in cybersecurity or privacy. Both are complex, the problems are large, and the solutions require contributions from a workforce with a diverse set of skills and experiences.

During this fireside chat in recognition of Cybersecurity Career Awareness Week and Cybersecurity Awareness Month, attendees will meet four cybersecurity and privacy professionals who work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and who have vastly different training and career pathways, including from the fields of: psychology, English, education, and computer science. We’ll explore how they got into the field, the challenges and rewards, advice for a successful career in cybersecurity and privacy, and much more.

We will reserve 15 minutes at the end of the webinar for questions.

        Fireside Chat Participants:

        • Davina Pruitt-Mentle, Lead for Academic Engagement, National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE)
        • Gema Howell, Computer Scientist, Applied Cybersecurity Division, National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE)
        • Katie Boeckl, Privacy Risk Strategist with the Privacy Engineering Program

Presented by: David Zeichick, NCL Commissioner; Assistant Professor, Computer Science, California State University Chico

Empower your students with hands-on cybersecurity practice without building your own labs! As a cybersecurity instructor, you may be on the lookout for easily accessible ways for students to apply what they learned in class.

Find out about the NCL bi-annual all-virtual competition, along with resources for students such as webinar tutorials, blogs, lesson plans, how to use NCL as labwork, and connecting with the NCL Coaching Community.

NCL, powered by Cyber Skyline, helps high school and college students improve their cybersecurity capabilities in 9 categories, which are mapped to CompTIA’s certifications as well as NIST NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Work Roles. The categories are: Open Source Intelligence, Cryptography, Password Cracking, Log Analysis, Network Traffic Analysis, Forensics, Web Application Exploitation, Scanning, and Enumeration & Exploitation.

Presented by the Equal Pay Day Chicago Coalition

All women experience a pay gap, but Latinas face one of the widest pay disparities of any group of women—earning on average just 55 cents for every dollar a white man earns. At the current rate of progress, Latinas will not see equal pay until 2197—nearly 200 years from now!

On October 21st, join the Equal Pay Day Chicago Coalition for Non-Negotiable: Pay Equity for Women, an event in solidarity with Latina Equal Pay Day, the last Equal Pay Day of the year, and economic justice for all women all year round. The event will feature a salary negotiation workshop, focused on the particular barriers facing Latinas and other women of color, to equip you with the tools you need to get paid your worth. We’ll follow with a panel conversation focused on the broader systemic, structural, and societal barriers to pay equity, and what we can all do to make an impact.

        Description
An event in solidarity with Latina Equal Pay Day, the last Equal Pay Day of the year, and economic justice for all women all year round.

        Special Remarks: Mayor Lori Lightfoot

        4:00 – 4:30 p.m. CT: Salary Negotiation Workshop

        Ibie Hart, Women Employed

        4:30 – 5:30 p.m. CT: Panel Conversation

Add to Calendar 6:00 PM 10/24/20217:00 PM America/Chicago How To Write a Business Plan Free Workshop
Now is a great time to get that side gig moving in the right direction!

One of the most common questions asked when starting a business is how to write a business plan. Business plans are used for many different purposes, from planning out your initial venture to fundraising and conducting feasibility studies. This workshop will cover what a business plan is, why we need it, the basic structure of a business plan, and some of the various formats.

Also, as a follow-up to this workshop, once we get back to 'normal' offline events, we will have more events/workshops on starting and growing your business idea. In addition, we will have a Zoom session at the end of this event to mingle more.
