GCAMP (the Greater Chicago Advanced Manufacturing Partnership) hosts transformational summer tours for students (ages 12+) interested in STEM careers within manufacturing and industry.

Explore the educational pathways that align with high-wage industry careers. Go “behind the scenes” to see how daily products are made. Interact directly with engineers, plant operators, and other industry professionals. Ask about their apprenticeship program, which offers tuition reimbursement for an associate’s degree.

Students on The Diemasters tour will see the high-tech press lines, with up to a 350-ton capacity, that produce parts and assemblies used in the automotive, aerospace, hardware, and medical industries. The Diemasters is eager to hire young people interested in manufacturing careers.

Founded in 1948 on Chicago’s West Side, Weiss-Aug Group / The Diemasters has made high-precision parts and assemblies for almost 80 years. Today, they serve customers throughout the U.S., producing over 250,000 stamped parts, assemblies, and fabrications daily. Engineers at Diemasters use AutoCad, Solidworks, and other well-known software systems to design, prototype, and test tooling for new products. The Diemasters' production processes include progressive precision metal stamping and Mig and Tig welding, both automated and assembled using robots.

UNITE HERE Chicago Hospitality Institute (UHCHI) is a partnership between the UNITE HERE Local 1 Labor union and hotels and food service employers in the Chicago area. UHCHI is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) institution and labor-management/Taft-Hartley training fund serving and providing training benefits to employers, the union, and its members. In response to the hospitality sector being one of the largest sectors in Chicago, UHCHI was designed to improve the Chicago area’s tourism and hospitality industry by increasing the skill level of its workforce.

Our mission is to up-skill incumbent hospitality professionals, build new talent for the hospitality industry, and place people into unionized career pathways through training programs that include registered apprenticeships. We recruit, train, and retain skilled employees and provide ongoing professional development and support to individuals in the Chicagoland area.

This is a two-part work training model, an incredibly fun and rewarding learning journey. With cutting-edge curricula, premier instructors, and close collaboration with area employers, the UHCHI Culinary Apprenticeship is the first and ONLY US Department of Labor registered apprenticeship program for the position of Chef de Partie in the State of Illinois. Upon completing the UHCHI apprenticeship program, graduates can move up the career ladder in high-quality hospitality jobs.
