Feng Kanglan had been considering restaurant ownership before she joined the Immigrant/Refugee Restaurant Job Training Program. She entered the program with the motivation to gain a better understanding of the food service and restaurant industry. Throughout the training, she developed new skills and knowledge in various aspects of restaurant operations, including management, customer service, culinary techniques, and the logistics involved in opening a restaurant. Kanglan also completed the ServSafe® Food Protection Manager training, passing the exam and earning her certification. Additionally, the program provided opportunities for her to connect with peers and industry professionals, which supported knowledge sharing and her professional growth. With the skills and credentials she gained from the program, Kanglan successfully opened her own restaurant, E Ramen, in Chicago, IL.
