Never Give Up on Yourself and Never Back Down!
Program Details
At just 18 years old, Ariana Sands was approved for the WIOA Program to pursue a CNA certificate for the Spring 2024 semester at Shawnee Community College. Ariana’s decision to pursue this career path was inspired by her mother and grandmother, both of whom have been CNAs for nearly 21 years. From a young age, Ariana felt drawn to helping people and has always been passionate about making a difference in others’ lives.
Ariana shares that the WIOA program provided crucial financial support after her work hours were cut. The ongoing encouragement and conversations motivated her to persevere, even when she felt like giving up. She expressed gratitude for the continued support after she completed the program. Upon earning her CNA certificate, Ariana secured a position at Union County Hospital. She explains that working in the hospital has given her valuable hands-on experience and broadened her knowledge in the nursing field as she observes nurses at work. “I get the opportunity to help people return to themselves,” Ariana says. “I help when someone can’t do it themselves, and I love seeing them improve beyond where they were before they came in.” Ariana believes she became a better version of herself during and after her training, realizing that her actions could impact her ability to secure a good job and finish her education as a CNA. “I seem a lot happier when I’m helping people feel better—it’s my calling,” she reflects.
Ariana encourages others, “You can do it if you put your mind and body to it. Don’t overthink it—just do it. Don’t stress yourself out; focus on becoming a better person for yourself and your future. You got this!” She also extends her appreciation to the SDC WIOA Program, saying, “I am thankful for the WIOA program.”
