When I walked in for my interview, I was nervous. I knew I was the last person to be accepted—and late, no less. The program had already been running for a week, and I was so worried I wasn't meant for this opportunity. I began my interview with Miss Vee, and after that, I don't know why I was so worried!
Hi! My name is David Sommer. I grew up in the north suburbs of Chicago with two Rabbi parents. My parents always told me stories growing up, so I came to think of them as storytellers. I felt it was my destiny to change the world through stories. Thanks to my wonderful auditors, I quickly realized I might be in the right place.
Destiny Outreach’s apprentice program quickly taught me many new skills. Among them, I learned how to update my résumé correctly and how to make it look professional. I learned on-site and on-set skills for the industry, including handling a camera and coordinating large groups. I also mastered administrative tasks such as managing email accounts, communicating with organization members, scheduling, calling clients, and onboarding new employees.
As a result of this program, my horizon has been broadened in terms of what I’m capable of and what is possible for me in the creative industries. I have made many new friends, and I’m very excited for the future. I have already started my own film project, I am working on professional sets, and I’m hopeful for employment once my internship ends! Thank you, Miss Danita, and everyone else involved, for this opportunity!!!
