Program Details

My name is Mia Kay Berry. I am a freshman at DePaul University, originally from the South Side of Chicago. I have always been a creative person, but learning how to balance that creativity with the corporate workforce hasn't always been easy for me.
Before joining this program, I would say I’ve always been adaptable—teaching myself how to stay positive and persevere through any situation. However, as I got older, I realized I wanted to be in an environment and a community where I truly felt I belonged. I wanted a community where the "impossible" is possible; where everything I imagine can come to life, and where I’m surrounded by progressive leaders who can depend on one another.
Coming into the Destiny Outreach program, I felt so grateful to finally be a student of something I’ve always wanted to learn. I’ve come out of this experience with a real community and a deeper sense of confidence. I trust myself now. I believe that everything will work out as long as I put in the work and focus only on what I can control.
Being surrounded by people who inspire me has put a fire inside of me to strive for more. As a result, I am calmer and less hard on myself. I focus on progression rather than perfection. I have a creative, innovative network around me, and every day I feel great, grand, and glorious.
