Broadening Horizons: How a Creative Cohort Changed My Path
Program Details
"I came into this program feeling lost and not knowing where to take my career next. I felt like I had the skills, but not the tools to present them. I am happy to say that coming out of this program, I feel more educated about what I can really do, and my horizons have been broadened.
It all started with meeting the others in the cohort. That’s when things started to change for me. I was given a community of young, thriving artists, much like me, who wanted more from their craft and more opportunities to shine. Getting to be surrounded by other creatives was a refreshing change from what I was used to.
Things truly took off for me once I got to CAN TV, the host site where I interned. That was an experience that truly shaped me and one I will never forget. At CAN TV, I received studio camera training, worked on a real set, and even hosted a segment on a news show the studio produces. I did it all and can call it something I am proud of, but it wasn't without its challenges. In such a constantly fluid and shifting point in my life, it was a constant balancing act between CAN TV, my part-time job, and housing insecurity.
In the end, I came out the other side with people and experiences I will take with me in my future artistic endeavors. I can't say enough how grateful I am for my time here, and I hope others can gain as much from this experience as I have."
