Building the Director’s Toolkit: My Time at CAN TV
Program Details
I am a South Side of Chicago, born-and-raised actor, director, and producer. I’ve been working in the theater and film industry since I was eight years old, and I’ve been in love with film and television ever since. My goal is to become a showrunner or studio executive so that I have the power and the choice to do whatever I deem necessary for the stories I’m telling.
Being placed at CAN TV was exciting because, as a Chicago native, I had always heard of them but had never had a reason to go into the building. Being an apprentice gave me a purpose for being there. I was immediately drawn to the lights, the studio cameras, and the control room. I wanted to add that technical expertise to my director’s toolkit.
CAN TV allowed me to operate cameras during live shows, practice using a TriCaster switchboard, and make short films using their equipment. Now, I have a real connection with one of the most well-known media distributors in the city! I definitely left more technically versed than I was when I started. I’m much more versatile now, and I know I can step onto any set with knowledge and confidence.
