Career Exploration Benefits Local High Schools

Through General Revenue Funding (GRF), ManTraCon was able to schedule multiple Career Exploration events with local schools. Du Quoin and Carbondale High School students toured a local cable manufacturer, Prysmian, in Du Quoin. Apprenticeship opportunities, Career paths, and related education were all discussed before taking the students on a walking tour of the plant. Murphysboro High took students on a tour of Penn Aluminum, and Thompsonville went on a tour of Pepsi MidAmerica. Through GRF, ManTraCon also purchased VR headsets with a Career Exploration application. Bluford, Carbondale, and Murphysboro High Schools have used these with students, and John A. Logan College has used the headsets at two different Sophomore Day events. Students have enjoyed the virtual experience of a day in the life for different occupations.
