From Restaurant Work to Restaurant Owner
Program Details
Guangshun Mei joined the Immigrant/Refugee Restaurant Job Training Program and was eager to learn more about the food and restaurant industry and build upon his skills. After immigrating to the United States, Guangshun began working in the restaurant industry, taking on various kitchen roles to support himself and build a new life. While he gained valuable hands-on experience, he aspired to one day open a restaurant of his own that reflected his passions. Throughout the training, Guangshun demonstrated strong dedication and a willingness to learn. He developed essential skills in kitchen operations, customer service, and restaurant management, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the logistics involved in starting and running a business. Beyond technical skills, the program provided Guangshun with valuable mentorship and connections within the food service industry. These relationships, along with the knowledge and confidence he gained, helped him take the next step toward entrepreneurship. He now has his own business with his wife and participant (Xiaoling Li), serving various Chinese dishes and sushi at Chen's House in Oaklawn, IL.
