May 27th, 2026, Lake County Workforce Development co-hosted our first annual Apprenticeship Job Fair with McHenry County Workforce and the College of Lake County’s Manufacturing Alliance. This event was created to highlight apprenticeship opportunities for our community members. Personal invitations were sent to businesses with openings for registered apprenticeships and non-registered programs. We had 14 employers representing multiple industries. There were two trade unions represented, a registered cyber security program, Chimney Sweep Technician, Tool and Die, CNC machining, and others. Over 139 job seekers registered, and 149 people attended in person! Businesses connected with job seekers by explaining the apprenticeship programs they offer and how to apply. Anne Brogden, Work-Based Learning Program Manager at the Office of Employment and Training with DCEO, attended to show support. McHenry County Workforce had three representatives in attendance. IMEC was there and invited businesses to stay after the event to hear a presentation on how IMEC can help grow and sustain apprenticeship programs through its mentorship training. College of Lake County provided the venue - the Advanced Technology Center in Gurnee. Job seekers had positive comments about how they learned about apprenticeships, and businesses stated they were impressed by job seekers' interactions.
