Media has always been a part of my life, whether it's recording videos for fun, taking pictures for family, or even listening to music as I go about my day. Still, as I grew older, I never would have imagined it would turn into a career of mine until a couple of years ago. Before working for workNet DuPage, I was struggling to launch my career after just graduating with my bachelor's, but I did not let the lack of work stop me from finding my own work. I decided to make videos in Chicago, which led me to connect with someone in my field.
He taught me a lot, which helped me gain much more hands-on experience in media. I worked with him for a couple of months, and he recommended I apply for the workNet DuPage Internship Role. At the time, it felt like a waste of time since I applied to other places, thinking, “How could this be any different?” Turns out, it was different, and I got accepted.
I ended up being a social media intern with workNet DuPage under the 26-071006 grant. I had no idea I was surrounded by teammates looking to grow and looking forward to this new experience, just like me, with a staff always ready to help in times of need. In this role, I had the opportunity to build multiple new company social pages, talk to companies in the area and help them grow on social media, plan visits, and learn new media approaches.
In the future, I plan to invest enough in myself to work for myself through media with my friends, or through another path I may come across. Until then, I will continue to learn from others, build my skills in areas where I have flaws, and strive for growth.
