Gabriel Orr is the perfect example of how powerful and necessary Bella Ease's support is. When Gabe's case came to us, he was a fresh 18-year-old, and from what I knew, he didn't have a great relationship with his family. He was homeless and sleeping in his minivan. This young man was determined to make something of himself and quickly. He went to the Salvation Army, where he stayed for 3 weeks and met new people. He met his friend there, and they decided to become roommates to help each other along the way, and it worked. They got an apartment in Indian Hills while he worked part-time at Amazon and went to school, because he hadn't yet received his high school diploma due to some health issues. Gabe is a big guy, around 6 '5 and kind of scruffy, like a lumberjack, so to anyone who doesn't know him, you would think he was at least 40 years old. He would often be early to his appointments, not only with us here at Bella Ease but apparently everywhere. He would call and talk to whoever he needed to to find out whatever info he needed. He calls between our scheduled appointments to double- and triple-check that the info he has is right. Most people would find him overbearing until they understood him. Gabe struggled with finishing school like most kids his age. But Gabe has A LOT more on his plate than the average senior.
Shortly after getting his apartment, Gabe got into a wreck in his van, his transportation to and from work, and then injured himself playing basketball, resulting in him losing his job at Amazon. It turned out to be a blessing because it freed his time up to focus on and finish school. With all these obstacles and barriers against him, he let none of it stop him. He did receive his 2026 diploma from Quincy High, and after he finished, he buckled down and applied to any job he thought was hiring. For a short period, he worked at Buffalo Wild Wings until July 2026, when he landed a high-paying position at ADM. He came to me with so much appreciation. Gabe Oor accomplished a lot in a short period of time, and he did it all with a traumatic brain injury from a motorcycle wreck. He wasn't expected to live, let alone thrive. I left that out on purpose to show that even with all the odds against you, with a little understanding, some determination, and the right support, possibilities are endless.
