Program Details

Journee Davis is a 16-year-old student at Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois, and the proud mother of a two-year-old son. Before enrolling in the IYIP Short Program, Journee was actively engaged with several CEDA services, including Purple X for behavioral health, CEDA Changemakers for community engagement, and WIC programs. Through these supports, she learned about the IYIP Short Program and recognized it as an opportunity to develop her skills further and pursue her career interests.
A talented artist, poet, and aspiring hairstylist, Journee was paired with Simply Beautiful Unisex Salon, a worksite that aligned closely with her long-term goals. Throughout her experience, she has gained hands-on training in a variety of hairstyling techniques and developed valuable customer service and professional skills. From greeting clients to working in a fast-paced salon environment, Journee has embraced every opportunity to learn and grow.
Despite significant challenges, including becoming a mother during high school and living in an impoverished community, Journee has remained focused on her education, personal development, and future career aspirations. Her resilience, determination, and commitment to creating a better life for herself and her son have been evident throughout her participation in the program.
Journee's journey exemplifies the impact of support services and workforce development opportunities. Through the IYIP Short Program, she is building practical skills, increasing her confidence, and taking meaningful steps toward a successful future for herself and her family.
