Dedjina - Building a Healthcare Career Through Persistence and Purpose
Program Details
“I’m excited to start!”
That was Dedjina’s response as she prepared to enroll in the College of DuPage Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) ICAPS program, an intensive semester of coursework and clinical training. Dedjina brought a warm smile, a passion for helping others, and a clear goal: to build a career serving older adults and eventually become a nurse.
Through the JTED program, Dedjina received assistance with program enrollment, career coaching, resume development, job search guidance, and access to resources that supported her success during training and after graduation.
Despite working full-time and navigating various stressful life situations, Dedjina remained committed to her goals. She maintained regular communication with her career coach, sharing updates, challenges, and successes throughout her journey. JTED staff also provided information about employment authorization, healthcare careers, and future educational opportunities, including support with completing the FAFSA to support her long-term goal of advancing in nursing.
Dedjina began the CNA program in August, completed the training in December, and then passed the Illinois Nurse Aide Competency Exam and earned her CNA certification in January. This credential opened the door to healthcare employment and marked a significant step toward her dream career.
After obtaining her credential, Dedjina worked closely with JTED staff to explore employment opportunities. She secured a CNA position at The Pearl of Orchard Valley and later interviewed with Tribute Home Care, one of WRC’s healthcare employer partners. Through this connection, she was offered a caregiver position and successfully navigated the hiring and onboarding process with support from both WRC and the employer.
Like many healthcare professionals, Dedjina faced obstacles along the way. Health challenges temporarily affected her ability to work, and she had to balance treatment, employment responsibilities, and financial pressures. Even during this difficult period, she demonstrated resilience by staying engaged with healthcare providers, maintaining employment, and continuing to pursue her career goals.
Today, Dedjina has successfully achieved the goals she set when entering the JTED program. She completed CNA training, earned her state CNA credential, and secured employment in the healthcare field through both self-directed efforts and WRC’s JTED program partnerships. She exited the program after meeting her employment and career objectives and is gaining valuable experience that will support her nursing plans.
Dedjina’s story reflects determination, perseverance, and purpose. What began with excitement about starting a CNA training program has become the start of a meaningful healthcare career. With her compassion for others, commitment to learning, and dedication to serving older adults, WRC believes this is only the start of a long and successful journey in healthcare.
