Mohammad - From Truck Driving Dream to Career Success
Program Details
When Mohammad enrolled in the JTED program in the spring, he had a clear goal: to earn his Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and build a long-term career in the trucking industry. He was eager to pursue a career path with greater growth potential and eventually hoped to open his own business. During his initial Career Development Plan meetings, he worked closely with his Career Pathways Specialist to explore career options, identify his strengths, and create a roadmap toward his goal of becoming a professional truck driver.
Career Pathways staff provided individualized career coaching throughout the process. Together, they explored training options, discussed financial assistance opportunities, reviewed labor market information, and visited a CDL training provider so Mohammad could better understand the training requirements and available career opportunities. He completed career assessments, developed an action plan, and stayed focused on the steps needed to enter the industry.
Eager to get started, Mohammad enrolled in a 160-hour CDL training program over the summer. Despite balancing work and other responsibilities, he remained committed to his goal and completed the program. Through hard work and determination, he passed all required exams and earned his CDL, taking a major step toward a new career.
After completing training, Mohammad began applying for driving positions. Like many job seekers entering a new field, the process involved both successes and setbacks. He explored several opportunities and gained valuable experience navigating the trucking job market. Throughout his search, Career Pathways staff continued to provide encouragement, guidance, and support as he evaluated employers and pursued positions that aligned with his long-term goals.
His persistence paid off. After a few hits and misses, Mohammad secured stable employment as a truck driver and successfully transitioned into the field he had worked so hard to enter. The position allowed him to begin building real-world driving experience while moving forward on the career pathway he established at the start of the program.
Today, Mohammad is employed in the trucking industry and continues to develop his professional skills. Reflecting on his journey, he recently shared with his Career Pathways Specialist how grateful he was for World Relief's support in helping him achieve his goals. From career exploration and training enrollment to ongoing coaching and employment assistance, the JTED program helped him turn a career aspiration into reality.
Mohammad's story demonstrates how determination, targeted workforce training, and individualized career support can create meaningful opportunities for long-term economic mobility. What began as a goal to obtain a CDL has become the foundation of a promising trucking career and a pathway toward even greater opportunities in the future.
