When Savanna Garcia first entered the workforce development program while living in a shelter, she felt uncertain about her future. She was very shy, hesitant to participate, and often reluctant to attend employment workshops. At times, Savanna felt discouraged and considered giving up on her goals.

Everything began to change when she decided to attend one of Employment Specialist Lorna Willis’ employment workshops. Through consistent encouragement, support, and workforce readiness activities, Savanna gradually became more engaged and motivated. During the program, she shared that no one had ever really encouraged her or told her she could achieve her goals. Positive reinforcement and reminders of her strengths helped her begin to believe in herself.

As her confidence grew, Savanna focused more on her employment goals and committed to building a better future for herself. Her determination and hard work paid off when she secured employment with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Since starting her job, Savanna has maintained her position and continues to do well in her career.

In addition to achieving employment stability, Savanna has also obtained permanent housing, marking a significant milestone in her journey toward self-sufficiency. Her story demonstrates the impact that encouragement, support, and perseverance can have on an individual's life.

Today, Savanna exemplifies resilience and determination. From experiencing homelessness and uncertainty to securing housing and maintaining meaningful employment, she has transformed her circumstances and continues to move forward with confidence and success.
