Alexis Rodriguez-Martinez began his apprenticeship with Mondelēz International and College of DuPage in the summer of 2025. A little more than a year into his apprenticeship, Alexis is thriving on the job and in the classroom. Recently, Alexis shared a bit about his experience with Mondelēz and College of DuPage.

Q: Why did you decide to become an apprentice?
A:
I had an interest in the electrical field but never knew or had the chance to really explore what that actually meant. When I learned about this opportunity, I knew it was my chance to explore and dive deeper into something that would help me build a career and gain the skills and hands-on experience I wanted.

Q: What experience are you most proud of regarding your apprenticeship?
A:
Being able to apply what I learn at school to work, and vice versa. I feel more engaged in my schoolwork because I can see firsthand how electrical components and theory are applied at my workplace. This helps me deepen my understanding not only of the material but also of how I approach my work in class.

Q: What do you like about being an apprentice?
A:
I really like the experience that comes with it and the learning. I can also meet many others who share my interests or have different experiences than I do. Learning about others' experiences through this shared opportunity is great, and I think it's a great way to learn about other opportunities in the world.

Q: How has your life changed since becoming an apprentice?
A:
I have been able to have a clearer path in life and have been able to gain knowledge and real-life skills that I may not have been able to acquire before.

Q: How has your career progressed since you’ve been an apprentice?
A:
I can see way more career paths for myself now that I have gotten involved with College of DuPage and their apprenticeship program. It showed me a new world I wasn’t aware of before.
