Jacob Ackerman
Program Details
Jacob Ackerman was referred to OAI through Elite Houses of Sober Living, a transitional housing program that supports individuals returning to the community following incarceration. Through this partnership, Jacob connected with OAI’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Training Program, where he developed new skills and took meaningful steps toward long-term employment and stability.
Jacob entered the eight-week EV Training Program determined to create a better future for himself: the intensive, hands-on training required focus, consistency, and a willingness to learn. Although the program presented challenges, Jacob remained committed to completing the training and advancing toward his career goals.
Throughout the program, Jacob gained valuable technical skills and increased his knowledge of electric vehicles and the growing clean energy industry. Just as importantly, the experience strengthened his confidence and reinforced the importance of perseverance, accountability, and remaining committed even when faced with challenges.
“OAI provided me with the opportunity, resources, and support I needed throughout the training. Having people who wanted to see me succeed made a difference and encouraged me to keep moving forward.”
Upon completing the Electric Vehicle Training Program, Jacob earned industry-related certificates and left the program with new skills, greater confidence, and a clearer vision for his future.
His success did not stop at graduation. Recognizing the skills, commitment, and potential Jacob demonstrated, Elite offered him employment assisting with rehabilitating its housing properties. This opportunity allowed Jacob to transition from training directly into employment while continuing to build his skills and professional experience.
Jacob’s journey demonstrates the impact that workforce training, supportive services, and strong community partnerships can have in creating pathways to employment and economic stability for individuals returning to their communities.
For Jacob, completing the EV Training Program represents more than earning certificates—it represents a new beginning.
“This is not the end of my journey. It is the beginning of a new chapter. I am proud of what I have accomplished, and I am ready to take what I have learned and continue building a career and a better future.”
