Growing Skilled Educators to Enhance Quality Provided to the Community
O'Fallon Childcare & Learning Center currently has two employees (MB, JW) participating in the Illinois State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant and enrolled in Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC)’s related technical instruction program. In addition to their coursework, both are engaged in valuable on-the-job training at our center.
MB is dedicated to being a positive role model for the children, inspired by the lack of male teachers he experienced during his own childhood. He excels at leading outdoor games that teach sportsmanship and teamwork, and he has taken the initiative to guide our Community Service Volunteers on various projects. MB has consistently demonstrated a kind and compassionate heart. He plays with the children and is not concerned with what others might say, as he meets them where they are. He is active in his church and serves on its audio/video team. He has proven to be a reliable member of our staff and can be counted on to complete an assignment without supervision. What an asset he is.
JW is a hardworking, creative, and kind educator who consistently supports our children, parents, and staff. Despite recently losing her stepmother, who was a major support to her, she remains deeply committed to her education. She is already planning to continue her studies to pursue a bachelor's degree. JW has shown tremendous versatility. In addition to being a concerned and involved educator, she has been interested in learning the administrative side of our center. This willingness has made her an even greater asset as she continues to learn and grow. In addition, she has demonstrated sensitivity to others' needs in her interactions with our children's parents. She often lends an attentive and compassionate ear to those in need. I foresee a great future as she follows her dreams and ambitions.
Participation in this apprenticeship grant is incredibly important for our apprentices and for O’Fallon Childcare & Learning Center. It provides our staff with vital formal education and structured training, while allowing our center to cultivate skilled educators who directly enhance the quality of care we provide to our community.
