Program Details

Kenyetta Prince is currently a 1A WIOA participant. Kenyetta first reached out to inquire about the WIOA grant in May of 2021. Although COVID was at an all-time high, Kenyetta still pushed to provide all documentation necessary to complete the process. At the time, meeting in person was unable to happen due to COVID. Although there were no in-person appointments, Kenyetta proved to be goal-oriented, dependable, and an honest participant that would succeed in the WIOA grant.

Kenyetta started school in July 2021. She took on the role of a full-time student as well as a full-time mother to three children. Kenyetta knew there would be some challenges, but after a few weeks in class, she was involved in a severe accident that caused a loss of vision and other various injuries that was detrimental to her continuing her schooling. Even though she had to put school on pause, she diligently communicated with the school and her case manager, Kendyll. She was clear that she would return to school to finish her schooling in January 2022.

Being a single mother trying to care for and provide for her children has its difficulties, but now she has to face the challenge of taking care of herself too. During this time away from school, Kenyetta stayed in contact with her case manager. As upsetting as it was to put Kenyetta on hold, her case manager knew she was determined and would come back better than ever. Kenyetta stated in the beginning: “I plan to have my nursing degree by 30. My plan is to stay focused on what really matters, and that’s my education”. Kenyetta recently graduated and received her diploma in December of 2022 at the age of 30. Kenyetta will do wonderful things in the future not only because of her goals but also because of her perseverance to never quit.
