At the time of program enrollment, Alexis was a young mom of three children struggling to make ends meet when she discovered the New Moms/Bright Endeavors job training program designed to help pregnant and parenting moms locate permanent, quality employment delivered in a light manufacturing setting. The program is designed to equip moms with transferrable skills, which translate to the high-growth industries of manufacturing, transportation distribution and logistics, hospitality, retail, and business/professional services.

Alexis learned contextualized numeracy and literacy throughout training to improve her reading/math comprehension and prepare for her employment retention. She was paired with a career coach in which she participated in career exploration activities, learned about her executive skills, and found that she was interested in the light manufacturing/transportation and logistics industry. Alexis displayed her newfound skills during an ABC 7 news broadcast at Bright Endeavors, where she explained how she measures, calculates, and pours high-quality, hand-crafted soy wax candles using recipes, monitoring temperatures, and identifying the correct vessels.

By the end of her 16-week program experience, Alexis successfully engaged in workshops about parenting, finances, career development, and leadership. She passed and earned a Forklift and Stacker Safety & Operation Course and Certification. She was offered and accepted full-time permanent employment with UPS, minutes from her home, with a work schedule that accommodates her childcare needs.
