Program Details

My name is Elihu Alarcon. I joined Youth Career Pathways because this program is an excellent transition for me from High School to the real world. Since I joined this program, it has helped me tremendously with my professional growth, opened doors to endless possibilities, and resolved many hardships that challenged me. One of the challenges I faced, that hindered me from attending my work-based learning site and training, was when my car broke down. I was devastated by the lack of transportation. I knew it would prevent me from going through with what I was committed to doing. I called my case manager, Manuela Gracia, and relayed the issues I was experiencing and how much the repairs would cost, then asked for help. Surprisingly, she informed me that my car repair payment was approved. This program has also helped me financially with the checks I receive to pay my bills. This program gave me the opportunity I needed to better my future.

Youth Career Pathways introduced me to Nicor Gas Academy, which also helped me with job opportunities. It was an absolute eye-opener for me to explore numerous career paths. This made me a better person by learning patience and not rushing the process. The Nicor Gas Academy graduation made me feel like I accomplished something important in my life that is beneficial in the long run.
