Seth entered the last half of his high school journey in a precarious state. He lacked direction, struggled with drugs, and did not see a direct way out of his situation. Having always been interested in technical subjects, he enrolled in a CTE course at his school. His instructor saw the spark of interest in Seth and noticed he had natural ability and skill when he completed his class work.

Seth was introduced to SkillsUSA Illinois and told about the Registered Apprenticeship Program. He learned he could become part of the program funded and supported by the Youth Careers Pathways (YCP) grant and have a chance at a fresh start in a job he enjoyed with the support and resources he needed to get back on track. He decided to focus on his schooling and his career.

Seth enrolled in the Registered Apprenticeship Program at an automotive dealership in Morton, Illinois, where he began training to be an automotive technician. He redoubled his efforts to finish his schooling strong so he could remain in his courses and have access to the education to support his job. Seth excelled in his job, and his grades improved. He also broke free of his drug dependency and has been free of that lifestyle for some time.

Seth is exiting the YCP program and continues to flourish in his career. He graduated high school and is now attending community college to get additional knowledge and certifications, all funded by his employer. Seth's future is bright; he looks forward to whatever comes next.
