Tobias Hennrich will earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree from Elgin Community Collect (ECC) in May 2023. While studying for his degree, Tobias gained skills in machining, wiring, welding, and programming—all of which had previously fascinated him. Still, a lack of hands-on experience to explore and expand upon his curiosity left him unable to pursue the career path. Tobias applied his skills as an apprentice in Crystal Lake at TC Industries and said the apprenticeship program changed his life. It has allowed him to “work towards a career” rather than remaining in “dead-end jobs.” Moreover, the “fun” and “memorable learning” involved completing projects and building relationships with students, professors, and program coordinators made his ECC experience unlike anything he’d encountered in previous colleges.
