In Champaign County, the community is invested in digital literacy and broadband expansion. With investments in related infrastructure needs, employers contacted the workforce development system for help navigating apprenticeships. Supported by the East Central Illinois Workforce Board and Apprenticeship Illinois, Volo worked with Parkland College to design and launch a Fiber Optics Technician Registered Apprenticeship. The first cohort participated during Quarter 3 of 2023, with some participants being supported using Incumbent Worker Training funds from the Workforce Board.
