Jose came to The Workforce Connection after being a part of a mass layoff from Chrysler in 2022. After attending an orientation event for The Workforce Connection, he learned that we could provide tuition assistance and support him in connecting to training in an in-demand field as support from becoming laid off. Jose knew he wanted to get into a trade and learned what training options were available in these fields. Jose worked with his Career Planner and decided that he wanted to attend the HVAC Diploma Program at Rockford Career College. In 2023, Jose graduated and received his HVAC Diploma! However, Jose did not stop there! While attending school, he applied for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 23 Apprenticeship Program. Jose was accepted into this program and is now on his way to becoming a Journeyman! As a part of the program, Jose has gained experience working at Helm Mechanical as an HVAC Service Technician Apprentice. Jose is close to finishing his first year of this 5-year program! After the fifth year, Jose will earn his Journeyman card and a substantial, livable wage for himself and his family. When Jose was asked how his life differed from when he began working with The Workforce Connection, he said, “Now he has a clear vision of what he is going to accomplish and how he is going to get there.” He also said, “he is grateful for this amazing program that paid 100% of his training and continues to provide support and encouragement”. He added that without this program, he would not have been able to pursue his career goal of establishing a career in a trade like he had always dreamed of.  Congratulations, Jose! We are so proud of all that you have accomplished!
