Aleecia's journey to success is a testament to her dedication and the invaluable support from tutoring and career programs. Born and raised in Chicago, Aleecia is the oldest of four siblings and a proud graduate of Crete-Monee High School.
Determined to overcome academic challenges, Aleecia utilized tutoring services that helped her excel in her classes. This foundational support was pivotal in her pursuit of a healthcare career. Eager to avoid her struggles, Aleecia proactively sought certifications to enhance her qualifications. Through JTED funding, Aleecia could get her tuition paid for and utilize paid work experience. Additionally, she received supportive services like a monthly bus card, which greatly facilitated her commute and overall progress.
In October 2023, Aleecia's hard work paid off when she started an internship at Walgreens through her PWE program. Her dedication and skills quickly impressed her employers, leading to immediate employment as a Pharmacy Technician after her internship. In this role, Aleecia continues to learn and grow, gaining valuable experience in medication management and patient interaction.
Aleecia has completed her training program and obtained certifications in CNA, PCT, Phlebotomy Technician, EKG Technician, CPR, and Pharmacy Technician License. With these certifications and practical experience secured, Aleecia is now focused on becoming a nurse. She is pursuing post-secondary education to obtain her LPN, a crucial step toward her ultimate dream of working in a hospital setting.
Throughout her journey, Aleecia has remained committed to her goals, supported by her career coach and the resources provided by YJC. "My favorite part about YJC is the meetings with my coach, Sara. We’re always positive with one another, always talking about what’s next for myself and my career. It’s always great seeing her because I barely do," Aleecia shares.
Her story is a powerful example of how dedication and support transform challenges into stepping stones for success. As Aleecia herself advises, "Stay consistent with yourself and your goals no matter how hard it gets. You may feel discouraged sometimes, but you can’t let that break you. Never give up on yourself."
