Program Details

Kevin Robinson, at the age of 18, lives in Cairo, Illinois. Kevin was approved for the WIOA Work Experience Program, working for Howard Inland Logistics, a local landscaping business. Kevin provided his services in this job, helping with tree and shrub trimming, lawn care, pressure washing, maintenance, and equipment operation. Kevin’s supervisor says he is a very good, hard, independent worker and gets an average score for interaction while working with others. He is above average in all other categories, i.e., attendance, punctuality, work productivity, willingness to follow instructions, work initiative, and quality of work. Kevin states, “The Work Experience program helped me save money, learn responsibility, and have a good work ethic.”  He wants to save money to buy his first car and help his mom with bills.

After completing the Work Experience program, Kevin was hired at D & D Electric through the WIOA OJT program. Kevin’s duties are installing solar panels, managing wires, and operating equipment. After finishing in Mound City, IL, he will be going to East St. Louis, MO, for 5 to 6 months at another job site doing the same job. He has recently been accepted into the D & D Electic apprenticeship, and within the next 5 to 7 years, he will be a certified electrician.

Kevin wanted to add, “Try to learn more than one skill with your hands and a skill online.” Kevin also wants to express his appreciation to the SDC WIOA Program by saying, “Thank you again.”
