From Shelter to Stability: Yanira's Story
Program Details
Yanira is a Venezuelan national who immigrated to the US with her children in search of opportunity and a better life.
She arrived at our front door, soliciting help with her employment and training efforts, specifically in the Culinary Arts. Yanira's interest in the Culinary Arts can be traced to her work experience back home, where she specialized as an independent contractor serving traditional fast food in a culturally rich and competitive environment.
Yanira found her way to SERCO through a colleague who had found success with the services provided by the New Arrivals Team and the barriers we helped her navigate. Her personal success encouraged Yanira to register with us and begin her journey to employment.
Once registered, Yanira wasted no time and began working with our team to create a pathway to success. From Application Workshops to Resume Workshops, Yanira applied herself in a consistent and dedicated manner, prompting us to make extra efforts to support her work ethic and eliminate any further barriers. She was soon registered as a New Arrival and WIOA participant. As a result, we were able to place Yanira in a Culinary Arts training program through Daughters of Destiny and secure employment with West Liberty Foods. Both opportunities offer the skills and leadership abilities to excel in her field and reap the benefits of her hard work and dedication.
After securing employment, Yanira soon left the shelter where her family was temporarily housed and found an apartment that her family could finally call home, gaining stability, security, and peace.
Yanira continues to thank us for the work and support we offered and does not miss an opportunity to refer colleagues, friends, and relatives who are facing similar barriers to our organization. Yanira is an outstanding example of what our organization can accomplish.
