Jose Montoya - A New Start
Jose Montoya, 51 years old and part of a family of five, came to the WIOA program as a dislocated worker after a business closure, having worked as a Feed Mill Production worker for 17 years. Jose decided to enroll in the Truck Driver Training Program at Lincoln Land Community College so that he could increase his skills and begin working towards a new career. As a resident of Beardstown, Jose had to travel 118 miles each way to training. The mileage reimbursement provided by our program made a significant impact on Jose by assisting with this considerable daily transportation expense. Jose completed his training and received his commercial driver’s license. Within two months, he was employed by DOT Foods, Inc. Sixty days into his employment, he was averaging over $1,500 weekly, which was double what he had been earning from his previous employer. This short-term training and new opportunity have changed Jose’s life. In addition to higher earnings, he has much more confidence, greater job satisfaction, and is a competitive employee in today’s job market. Jose is an exemplar of hard work and professional dedication.
