Bartender Helpers - Preparation

To work as a busperson, you typically need to:

  • complete short-term, on-the-job training.

Education after high school

No formal education is required for this job. However, many employers prefer that you have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

On-the-job training

Almost all buspersons learn their skills on the job from an experienced worker. Training includes:

  • how to clean and set up tables;
  • customer service skills; and
  • orientation to restaurant policies.

After training, another worker may supervise your work. On-the job training generally lasts up to one month.
