In Illinois, dietitians must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Licensing requirements include:
- completion of a bachelor's degree program in human nutrition, foods and nutrition, dietetics, food systems management, or nutrition education;
- completion of 900 hours of supervised experience with an approved supervisor; or
- current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); and
- successful completion of an examination.
Licensure must be renewed every two years and requires 30 hours of continuing education.
