Route salespeople must have a driver's license. Some route salespeople need a commercial driver's license (CDL). This license is required for salespeople who drive across state lines or operate trucks that are designed to carry 26,000 pounds. Requirements for a CDL vary by state.
To get a commercial driver's license applicants must:
- be at least 18 years old (21 if driving interstate);
- pass written and skills tests; and
- have a valid noncommercial license or have passed all tests required to obtain one.
