In Illinois, landscape architects must be registered by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Registration requirements include:

• successful completion of a professional degree in landscape architecture from an approved program;
• at least two years of approved experience;
• passage of the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards; and
• payment of fees.

Registration must be renewed every two years.
