Fashion Models - Working Conditions

In a typical work setting, models:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Have a medium to high level of social contact. They work closely with agents, clients, photographers, and stylists.
  • Often communicate with others by telephone and e-mail.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Mostly work indoors but may occasionally work outdoors depending on what they're modeling.
  • Are often exposed to bright light from cameras and other photographic equipment.

Work Performance

  • Must be sure that all details about their outfits are done and their work is accurate, so they get the right look for clients.
  • Repeat the same physical activities, such as walking, turning, standing, or holding a pose.

Hours/Travel

  • Often work very irregular hours. Most jobs are during the day, but some outdoor photo sessions may be at night or early in the morning.
  • Work less than 40 hours a week.
  • Must travel to auditions and bookings. May travel to distant cities and foreign countries for photo sessions.
