Licensing / Certification

Certification is optional for data communications analysts. It is rarely required for employment or advancement. However, certification may give job seekers a competitive edge. Certification is available from the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals. They confer the title Certified Computing Professional (CCP) on those who:

  • have at least four years of work experience OR have at least two years of experience and a college degree;
  • pass an exam testing general knowledge; and
  • pass exams in two specialty areas OR pass exams in one specialty area and two computer programming languages.

Data communications analysts who have little or no experience can be certified as Associate Computer Professionals (ACP). For more information about certification, contact:
