Pharmacists must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Licensing requirements include:

  • graduation from a first professional degree program of at least 5 years in pharmacy at a recognized and approved university or college of pharmacy;
  • completion of a program of practice experience under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist;
  • passage of an exam; and
  • payment of a fee.

License renewal is required every two years with a requirement of 30 hours of continuing education.
