In Illinois, physical therapists must be licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Licensing requirements include:

  • being at least 18 years old;
  • completion of an approved program in physical therapy;
  • passage of a written exam authorized by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation; and,
  • payment of a license fee.

License renewal is required every two years.
