In a typical work setting, recreational therapists:
Interpersonal Relationships
- Communicate with others by phone, e-mail, and in person every day.
- Work as part of a team.
- Are responsible for the health, safety, and work done by others.
- Occasionally deal with conflict situations and people who may be rude or angry.
Physical Work Conditions
- Work indoors most of the time.
- Are often exposed to diseases or infections from patients.
- Work within a few feet of others.
Work Performance
- Must be very accurate and avoid errors.
- Make decisions that impact others often, sometimes without consulting a supervisor.
- Set some of their own tasks and goals each day.
- Work in a moderately competitive environment and meet daily and weekly deadlines.
Hours/Travel
- Have a set schedule each week.
- Work 40 hours a week.
