In a typical work setting, tax examiners:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Communicate with others daily by phone, e-mail, memos, and in person.
  • Are often placed in conflict situations.
  • Sometimes deal with unpleasant, angry, or discourteous individuals.
  • Work in a group or as part of a team.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Almost always work indoors.
  • Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space.
  • Are occasionally exposed to sound and noise levels that are distracting.

Work Performance

  • Must be very exact and accurate in their work.
  • Repeat the same mental and physical activities.
  • Often make decisions that impact others without talking to a supervisor.
  • Are able to set most tasks and goals for the day without talking to a supervisor.

Hours/Travel

  • Work a set schedule each week.
