In a typical work setting, carpenters:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Communicate with others by phone and in person almost every day.
  • Are very responsible for the health and safety of others.
  • Sometimes deal with conflict situations and people who may be rude or angry.
  • Often work as part of a group or team.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Almost always wear protective gear such as gloves or safety glasses.
  • Are often exposed to hazardous equipment and conditions that may result in minor injuries.

  • Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting.
  • Work near other people, usually within a few feet.

Work Performance

  • Must be very exact in their work and be sure all details are done correctly.
