Health Services Administrators - Overview

Health services administrators plan and direct health care services.

Health services administrators run a variety of health care facilities such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Nursing homes
  • Physician offices
  • Care centers

All health services administrators have tasks that are similar regardless of where they work. They must stay up to date on new laws and regulations. Health services administrators are responsible for quality health care services and they supervise health care staff. They also represent the facility they work for to investors, governing boards, and the public.

Health services administrators work closely with medical staff, department heads, and members of governing boards. They attend meetings, write reports, and monitor budgets. They also schedule staff and make sure resources are used effectively.

Some health services administrators promote health education programs. They often work with community groups to determine the health needs of the local area. They may also develop teaching materials for community health education.
