In a typical work setting, insurance adjusters and examiners:

Interpersonal Relationships

  • Have a high level of social contact with claimants, agents, and lawyers.
  • Communicate with others every day by phone, e-mail, memos, and in person.
  • Often deal with conflict situations and people who may be rude or angry.
  • Work in a group or as part of a team.

Physical Work Conditions

  • Usually work indoors, but occasionally work outdoors when evaluating property loss.
  • Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space.

Work Performance

  • Must be exact and accurate in their work.
  • Repeat the same mental activities, such as analyzing information about claims.
  • Regularly make decisions that strongly impact the company and claimants, usually without consulting a supervisor first.
  • Are able to set most tasks and goals without talking to a supervisor.

Hours/Travel

  • Generally have a set schedule each week.
