Certification for insurance clerks is optional. It is a sign that clerks have achieved a specific skill level. Certification is rarely required for employment. Policy processing clerks who work in customers service jobs may obtain the Certified Insurance Representative (CISR) designation. It is offered by the Society of Certified Service Representatives. To earn the certification, applicants must:
- attend five one-day classes, and
- pass a written exam at the end of each class.
