Several national certifying agencies offer examinations which program graduates are eligible to take. Among these agencies are, the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) of the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), and the American Medical Technologists (AMT). These agencies have different requirements for certification. At this time, the State of Illinois does not require that medical laboratory technicians be licensed.
